This is absolutely fantastic. I’ve got just over 50 hours in this, over a couple months of play, and It’s not dull yet. Cons: The audio mix can be a little odd. Naturally things are louder as they get closer to you, but at times the animal sounds seem quite a bit louder than they should be. That’s all I can come up with.
Pros: This is the best balance of realism and fun in any survival game I’ve played. The level of detail from nutrients to first aid, growth of the flora around you, design of structures, etc. You’ve got to keep your head in the game and pay attention to all the detail or you won’t make it far. The ongoing support from Creepy Jar, adding additional content based largely on player feedback, has really kept things fresh. The map is huge, considering the pace you need to take in order to survive. Lot’s of things to discover and dangers to encounter.
The “learning” system is fantastic. You have a journal that starts largely empty, and it is filled as you experiment and experience different things. Everything you encounter is “unknown” until you do something with it (eat it, make a bandage with it, make a brew, etc). You learn how to make different equipment by discovering it in the wild, or experimenting and stumbling across the “recipe” on your own. I highly recommend, and I haven’t even played the story mode, only survival. Great single or multiplayer, though it is much more tense and stressful in single player.
