Now that I’ve gone over the story and gameplay, I’ll move onto my critique. Cute Bite is a sort of spinoff of the Cute Knight series, one of Hanako Games’ early game series. I’ve been a huge fan of Cute Knight, so when I found out that Cute Bite was in development, I was excited to play it. First, I liked how the story starts off. It doesn’t waste time getting right to the action. I found it interesting how the butler, realizing that she was now free from the old master’s control, chooses to awaken his daughter rather than take advantage of her freedom. However
, I suppose it isn’t that much of a surprise since the butler has been used to looking young and under servitude for many years. There is an option to look into the old master’s death and the circumstances behind it, although I won’t reveal the details for spoiler purposes. (In case anyone’s curious, the butler is a possible romance option although the butler makes it a point not to discuss certain topics with her mistress due to her amnesia.)
Although there are romance options to pursue, as I mentioned earlier, the actual romances don’t happen until after the vampire mistress (whose name can be customized) returns to her adult form. Romance is more of a minor component, though, as the stat raising takes up the majority of the gameplay. Once your vampire mistress returns to her adult form, she can end up pursuing one of many career paths. Although I enjoyed getting to see these different endings, the stat raising can feel a bit tedious and tiring after playing through some time. I’d recommend that if you aren’t used to stat simulators, it’s best to take a break in between runs.
