I can recommend this game, but only in spite of EA, and with a couple extreme caveats. Madden NFL 22 is once again a terrible representation of “simulation” football. If you value having a solid offline experience on and off the field in Franchise Mode, then you’re once again left in the dust by EA Sports. However, if you can manage to get this game at a reduced price I highly recommend doing so and then immediately seeking out the Madden modding community before you even boot the game. The work that has been done by the community to salvage this game is nothing beyond remarkable. I’ve legitimately had a fun time playing franchise for the first time in years, and I’m once again hooked specifically because of the mods. I’ve lost all hope of EA putting out a functional game, but I have more faith in the modding community than ever before.
THE FULL PRICE. The full price is clearly crazy and insulting in the PC market considering this is an annual ported release with PC compatibility issues and some missing console features. It’s enough to put off proper NFL fans like me. That said, it’s recently been discounted on Steam to £20 and £15 … which is what I paid and a reasonable price point I think and likely reflects at least some acknowledgement from EA that it isn’t quite the game it could have been. £20 or less is what I’d recommend you pay. £30 at the next release would be a good starting point EA! THE FREEZE-CRASHING. This is the big one. By this I mean the video just stops, some sound continues, and the game has to be Force-Ended from Task Manager. This happens to me approximately once per session (usually early on and usually during games, but it can happen on the menus as well just the same). I know I’m not alone on this by any means (it seems that you can basically expect this unless you’re lucky), and I don’t have a weird config. Its definitely unique to this game and seems to be a “feature” bug, they haven’t coded out.
