A wild experience. This game is just completely over the top. A story that blasts you in the face with socio and geo-politics blended with melodrama and absurdity. It’s a game that has villains espousing the military industrial complex, while discussing memes, all while crab walking. The combat slaps, especially when you link up a long chain of attacks in to a blade mode zandatsu, it just feels great. The blade mode is especially a highlight, a bullet-time style mode where you manually angle your slices to dismember/destroy your enemies. There are a few things that hold it back, specifically the muddy ugly colour palette from the early 2010s of gaming, and the constant fight against the camera while in combat (this is especially a sticking point as it can interfere with your ability to dodge and parry). In addition, while I love the combat, I do feel like better dodge mechanics would have really improved the experience for me. It’s a shame that we’ll probably never get a sequel.
