To be clear, I like the story. I like the game. I cannot recommend the game. I bought and played Sword and Fairy 7 because I loved Gujian 3. As with Gujian 3, Sword and Fairy 7 is beautiful, it has enjoyable characters and a simple, though sincere story. Also, the music is lovely. However, the gameplay, or more particularly, the combat controls grate on my nerves, especially where needed most.
I can’t put my finger on what the difference is with Gujain 3. Sword and Fairy 7 seems to lack a certain kinetic feel in combat, leaving you suddenly curious why you’re on the option screen to rechallenge the boss you’ve painstakingly chipped down to near death. Additionally I yelled at the screen plenty as I often either got stuck on an invisible arena wall or got caught on a bit of the enemy character model right as the big hit came in. Beautiful characters, views and songs. However, the story, the combat modes, game angles, especially the mini games, and everything else were just plain and waste of time. Also there were several bugs in the game. You also could not feel the chemistry between the main characters. Faces and actions were like robots with no emotions at all. Only thanks to the voice actors, especially the voice actor of Shiu Wu, that the characters did not ruin the game. Overall, I would give this game 6.5/10. This is a game that after you have played the first time, you would not want to play the second time. I would suggest to only buy the game when it is on sale. Time for the next game.
