I loved the game even when I was playing the base model, even though it got repetitive because low enemy types and using the same gun over and over. So the fact that they are actively adding and updating this game makes me elated. If you like rouge-lite bullet hell cutesy mayhem, its a fantastic ride. As somebody almost entirely new to the genre, I enjoyed my time with it. The controls, both for controller and KB/M, worked well for me and felt good to use. The art is very cute and the soundtrack is great. I also appreciated the accurate information on axolotls, being an axolotl owner myself. However, there are a *lot* of problems I have with this game. There are almost no settings, you cannot change much graphics wise or key-binds as far as I could tell. I also struggled working out what buttons I had to press switching between controller to KB/M.
These would be simple fixes so would be nice to see these be implemented in future updates. The biggest con for me, however, is the lack of variety. Each run plays almost the exact same. The items change basically nothing, the weapons play almost the exact same from one another and it’s very hard to get the rarer items. In 10 hours of playing I have not once seen a gold weapon drop despite buying every weapon available with the currency (which is way too grind-y imo). The nurturing grind is also way too tedious and should really be revised. It’s cute at the start but quickly becomes a chore, especially because the different axolotls don’t have any differences, they all play the same.
