SCP: Secret Files is an interesting case. Any fan of the foundation or just a good story will enjoy this game. I must be critical of the game for some of its shortcomings though, but considering the apparent fallout of the studio that made this game it may be understandable on why this game was tumultuous in a few development areas.
First I will go into why I recommend this, though. This game covers 5 SCPs of which four of them are relatively obscure from my experience. Considering the vast amount of SCP content there is, how often SCP adaptations will limit themselves to the most popular ones is a disappointment, so Secret Files already gets a ton of bonus points for going for some more original stories that can honestly be difficult to tell.
However this is the games strongest suit, each of the 5 main SCPs shown have different ways of telling their stories with very different ways of displaying the narrative. This had me hooked for each story as I got lured into the story in different ways, and in two of their cases felt like completely different games. This game accomplishes in showing so much through very little time, which is impressive.
I must address the failings here, though. The ending felt very anti-climatic for a game that worked so hard for its story. And in terms of the actual original writing versus basing it off of source material, this is particularly disappointing. This game is mostly just an interactive movie which I don’t mind as a medium to relay a story, however I felt disengaged during a few of these interactive segments due to how little in substance they actually were.
