This is one of those games where I’m not even sure if its fun. Just addicting. Normally that would be a criticism, here its isn’t. See the game perfectly captures the feeling of descending into madness. You constantly have items that can be explored or examined to reveal new truths and rewards, but only limited ability to actually do that. You also have multiple priorities that are all going in parallel with each other, and there’s no real way to speed one up, instead you just focus on another and come back when the first finishes. The result is you constantly want to explore deeper and find more things, but you’re never advancing as fast as you want to. I found myself constantly thinking “I should stop… but I have to KNOW.” Which is pretty much the right mindset for a game called cultist simulator. You don’t even know what the end point is and sometimes it might seem impossible to lose, but trust me. You always have enough information to guess at what the next step is, and it is always possible to lose. Don’t spoil yourself, if you do that’s most of the game’s fun down the drain and only the grind is left. ts also interesting because your character is basically a cultist in their free time, working ♥♥♥♥♥♥ jobs trying to make it big to become a full time cultist. I’m sure a lot of creative types will find this game very relatable.
I thoroughly enjoyed this expansion and becoming a winter long was a fun, if different, experience to the standard run. Having to manage my constant need to feed on the dead with my hunt for remnants to finish the great work was fun and it was always satisfying finding a new remnant, however the only criticism I could make is that working out what to do to advance down the dedication: remembrance path can be at times very difficult, especially as once you complete the elixir and consume your first corpse the game doesn’t really give you an idea that you can consume any other form of remnant beyond a corpse.
