This is a really fun entry into the xcom-like turn based strategy pantheon if – and I really have to stress this – IF you go loud. Contrary to the impression the game gives you with its infinite reinforcements it is completely doable from the get go and provides way more fun and complexity. This is NOT a stealth game. Stealth is nice as a diversion but really becomes super boring fast, especially with Actor+Disguise+Silenced Pistols as it is completely broken. Going loud gives you a really hard experience first but after a deep dive into the mechanics and possible builds for your characters you’ll have a lot of fun.
I would recommend shotgun and LMG setups and Buckshot (Mafia, RAF or Mossad) backgrounds earlygame. DGI and ASALA backgrounds are amazing too if you can get them (they are rarer esp. ASALA). This way you can cover close and long range. Overwatch on shotguns when pushing into houses and LMG for encounters in the open is key for a smooth earlygame. Don’t be fooled by people saying overwatch isn’t how you kill in this game. It is, especially when you can kill 5 enemies a turn by using SMG overwatch buffed by bargain+pain stimulus. Other stuff works aswell so feel free to experiment. Also always heal up before extraction via first aid and take Frag/Cluster, nerve gas or smoke grenades to deal with pesky reinforcements.
