Outliver: Tribulation is a story-driven third-person action-adventure souls-like survival horror shooter where you play as Bolanle Gboyega, a soldier who mysteriously finds herself in the Realm of Tribulations, a supernatural realm of African mythology where she soon discovers she has to undergo an ancient ritual in order to regain passage back to her realm… or so she thinks. Outliver is a souls-like third-person shooter with some horror elements. Your main objective is to defeat the four guardians and solve occasional puzzles in between. The core loop is fetching the right orbs and putting them in the right place to unlock the next area and so on.
The combat isn’t too deep; you simply dodge and shoot, and use the charms and explosive barrels to your advantage. Sadly, there’s not much variety in the weapons arsenal; you only have an AK and an Elder gun that can switch between a low-damage pistol or a high-damage grenade launcher. A good thing about it is that there are no missable items or upgrades; you can pretty much max out your character before the final boss fight and you can farm the mercenaries for money, who are fodder enemies that will respawn in every area.
