The game has some of the most dreadful english translation I have seen in a long time. Half of the time the dialogue barely makes sense. They really should have hired someone to do a better job. Other than that, it’s a lot of pixel hunting and “where the heck do I go next”. The main character doesn’t say much and your only hints are notes he takes (without telling you something story feels extremely unsatisfying near the end.If you’re really that curious about the story, watch a playthrough on Youtube, though imo it wasn’t even worth that.
