This is a decent game. If you like the Lego game series, this is one. If you are familiar with the series I have very little more to say. It’s fun, it’s in the Harry Potter universe, and it is in all other ways another Lego title. For those unfamiliar, this means a cutesy style, seeing all your favorite characters in Lego form, and mediocre game mechanics. They operate, but sometimes not amazingly. It satisfies through repeated achievements and collectibles. They are fun for a few hours and they are typically cheap.

What doesn’t work for me at all is combat. Feels like it doesn’t even belong here and was added at the last minute. So obtuse and janky with the enemies that are not scary but just annoying. What’s worse, the main character, NPCs and the overall story don’t even acknowledge these enemies exist. Ugh, I just really disliked the combat here. Really enjoyed how much it leaned into Nordic culture and let the environments speak for themselves. And the fact everything is textured by pencil really gave it a heightened eeriness, too. Things felt haunted, full of presence when nothing is there. It’s incredibly atmospheric, and I loved just exploring everywhere and getting rewarded for it. Interesting storyline, too. Very idiosyncratic in how it chose to unfold itself.
