Overview Hidden Deep:

Hidden Deep is a 2D action & exploration sci-fi thriller set in a mining and research facility – more than a mile under the ocean floor. A group of researchers detected strange anomalies of unknown nature and organized an expedition to examine the mysterious phenomenon. Suddenly, after 681 days, contact with the researchers breaks off. You are the leader of the second team: Go down there, find out what happened, rescue anybody who is alive. Control your team members directly or by giving orders. Accomplish your mission by coordinating different tasks.

Explore the sub oceanic caves by using specialized equipment: grappling hooks, scanners, drones and heavy machinery are all part of your arsenal. Defend against horrific alien life forms and other, undiscovered horrors that lurk in the deep. You will work the most with the grappling hook. But there are also other helpful items to proceed in the game, like a little drone that could be sent to other spaces and to destroy enemies. Of course this drone is only active for a few seconds. I like the parts where you need to control more then 1 character together. And also the parts where you need to control the machines and vehicles.

The option to end your man’s life could be useful for example if you are stuck under an elevator…. Just finished the game after its release the 24/01/22. Please note that the game is still in early access, and anything I mention here might be included in the final game for all I know. I will also compare the game somewhat to Barotrauma as it feels and plays a lot like it, in my own opinion and is published by the same publisher.

The game itself is eerie. I would not say its scary at this stage unless you have some underlying fear of deep caves, tight tunnels or insects and arachnids. You mostly solve puzzles in the game. This is usually by yourself or with other characters you can switch between. Some are able to operate vehicles and others can climb, blow up the ground, and send out drones. The game is published by the same company that delivered us Barotrauma, and the start makes you believe its in the same universe, potentially even location. The Graphics are slightly cartoonish yet with some form of realism to the textures.
