I’m stunned by the negative reviews! I have so many turn based strategy games in my library like the XCOM series, Expedition series, Divinity series, Baldurs gate, etc. and this is my favorite TBS game ever! Sure the acting isn’t as good as say FFXII or RDR2, but few games are. But there are things this game does extremely well. The battles are spectacular. They’re difficult at times, but fair. My favorite thing is that once you’ve completed a story mission, you can go back and skirmish it again for extra XP and loot. It’s grinding, but it’s a fun grind. I also love that you can create your characters with different skills.
I started over once after a few hours and it was really neat how different my fights were with different skills. The story is decent and i like the subdued voice acting of Sarah. But the battles are where the fun is. Super cleverly designed zones that get more intricate as the story moves along. I absolutely love the game. I’m not sure why anyone who likes TBS games would rate this mediocre. I guess they never gave it a chance. I got it for 40% off, but would buy it full price. For a 50 dollar game, sure does freeze in the middle of combat a lot. If you buy this game, be prepared for frozen state at the end of a 30+ minute map that forces you to tab out and close the game through task manager start back from the very beginning. Bonus points for the fact that you can’t save in the middle of combat(can only suspend, which closes you out and deletes itself when you load). So you can’t even make saves to try to avoid these soul crushing crashes. Crashes are poor development and not being able to save and only suspend for a cHaLlEnGe is a poor purposeful design.
