I bought this game because it looked kind of fun, but mainly just wanted something simple to play to take a break from my usual 2 or 3 games I cycle through.
Turns out it is a super fun, challenging game with really a really interesting movement mechanic where you actually have to time your jumps with your little dude’s steps. In itself this isn’t difficult, but add moving obstacles and rolling platforms to the mix and it can get pretty tricky. It took me about 80 minutes to beat it- but it felt a lot longer due to levels like Roller Hell, the Boulder, and any level with the Punchers. It has its little quirks, which come with any physics-based game, but nothing that makes it unplayable. Infact, playability is this game’s strongest feature. It takes a few tries to get a feel for how to control HappyMan, but then you’re off to the races. Easy to learn, difficult to master.
Is this game the most beautiful game I‘ve ever played? No, and it’s not even in the same galaxy of the others. But that is extremely unimportant- its fun and charm carry it, and make it totally worth $7 for anyone who just wants a quick yet challenging diversion from whatever game they’ve put hundreds of hours into already.
