El Paso, Elsewhere is the coolest game of the year. You might wonder, how cool is coolest game of the year? It’s kill a pack of werewolves with a tommy gun kind of cool. It’s live out your John Wick fantasies 360 no scope shooting a horde of zombies from all sides kind of cool! It’s guns akimbo flick wrists to empty magazine while looking at portraits of kittens kinda of cool!! Oh it’s cool.

And an incredibly, and sincerely, written. Charming. And unlike any other experience in a year of great games. “I’d be worried about my knees, if I was going to live that long.” Really strong third person shooter. Feels tight and well constructed, the story goes interesting places and the enemies are mostly fun to fight. The Max Payne elements don’t seem to 100% fit to me, feeling a little more like a reference than a considered part of the design, but IMO it doesn’t really detract from how strong the game is generally, just maybe a little too much Max Payne gravy on top without having the enemy types to require it for a good 15-20 levels.
