The game Nocked! has you taking on the role of Robin Hood set in a world where myth and magic still has a foothold. You start out as a runaway who takes to Sherwood forest to claim their future. The game itself contains elements of interactive fiction (think choose your own adventure) as well as resource management. In fact, this was the stand out portion for me. The first thing you will notice is that you can choose the gender of your Robin, and even some limited background choices which will have some game affects. Additionally, the character of Maid Marian even has some variation which can affect play.
This game also features a cast of characters who were also fairly memorable. A big favorite is Sir Bedivere and his sidekick Little John (actually, John is the more important, but hey, who doesn’t like a bear in their game?). Mentioning more would be going into spoiler territory, so I won’t. Additionally, for players who like romances, this game contains a variety so you aren’t constrained to Maid Marian. Mechanics wise, most of the resource management boils down to managing your hideout in Sherwood, and as with other elements of the game, there is some variability with this.
This game also has four levels of varying difficulty, so if a level is a bit hard, you can always start a new game with an easier one. Additionally, there are four factions in this game: Peasants, Nobility, Church, and Fae. Investing in any of these can grant you additional benefits, some immediate while others are long term.
