I think there’s basically 3 “target demographics” that might be interested in Party Words, and unfortunately, each one would better be served by another product. The first demographic is “Streamers looking for a game to play with their viewers”. Party Words has about half a dozen game modes, but “Casual Doodle” is the only one that’s really playable on stream. The others all strongly feel like they were intended to be played with in-person friends. But even Casual Doodle’s pacing is oriented more towards in-person participation: the UI is designed so that the person who did the drawing has to confirm whether or not people guessed the secret word correctly, which doesn’t scale well to strangers who might “cheat”, or do the natural “stream delay” inherent in playing games on stream. For this demographic, people would probably rather play Jackbox.
The second demographic is people looking for a simple in-person party game. For this group, Party Words seems a bit too unstructured. For example, Party Words gives you a word (for example, “butterfly”), and you then have to get people to guess this word. Are we supposed to give hints using words? Are we supposed to mime it out? Make sound effects? Party Words doesn’t specify, so I guess it’s up to us to make up our own rule. Here, it’s unclear what the value proposition is relative to just putting a bunch of words on little pieces of papers and putting them in a hat, or any other physical (non-digital) source of random words (for example, a deck of cards with words on them). For this demographic, Heads Up! might be a better fit; it has essentially the same unstructured-guessing-game, but adds a lot more polish to the experience.
