What can I say about this game that hasn’t been said? Not much. For three quarters of it’s length, it’s perhaps the best game that’s ever been made. It’s got everything, from engaging characters, plenty of roleplaying options, a veritable trove of lore thanks to its origins as a TTRPG, and most of all *ATMOSPHERE*. The game was rushed. The team was working under a lot of crunch to meet an impossible deadline, and it shows. Frankly, it’s astounding that they managed to do such an amazing job for the majority of the game, but they lost their mojo towards the end. Without spoiling anything, the final four missions are some of the worst combat experiences I’ve ever had in gaming, requiring a lot of savescumming and even god mode. All that said, however, the first 3/4 vastly, vastly outweigh the many negatives of that final act. If you’ve somehow never played this game, yes, you should buy it. Soak in that atmosphere, and enjoy the ride. Just be prepared for a disappointing denouement. When it’s all over, maybe you’ll have found a new special interest that will consume your life, the way VTM did for me.
