I will say , that this game is more a battle simulator then anything else, and the story could be deeper, but the overall story being told is great. For those thinking about getting a strategy RTX scifi game with spaceships from that storyline, you should get the addons. not only do they gives tons of more single player stuff, they also add units to the campaign in terms of more designs, it enrichens the gameplay a lot ,i would not want to miss it. the additional campaigns have even more units to play with. What is pretty unique is , that you do not move your ships one by one , but instead you give commands direct troops , position them alltogether, and once you are done you end your turn and you will see a short animated movie of how the battle is progressing. This feels great and looks fantastic. By todays standard that is not new anymore , but it was one of the first games to handle it this way. Some animations are very repetetiv , this was never a tripple A title but what they did with the little they had is amazing. Also the big fanbase added a lot if style and designs through mods. You don’t need them , but there are lot of them out there , that really shine.
The campaign consists of random and story missions. the first are quiet repetetive after a while , so like with Battletech (for those who know it) or xcom, you need to like the fighting itself or otherwise you might get bored. Other then that you get fleet officers who have massive impact on the abilities of the flag ship and the fleet and your ships can level on their own and experience has a massive impact on the performance of the ships. The interface is a bit much in the beginning , in command bridge and on the battlefield. but if you take your time and go through it one by one , you will soon master it all. As mentioned before, if your are in it , the game is not that expensive, but if you wait for a sale or not , get it with all addons included. It makes the whole experience better. And by that i rest my case by saying : If you are a scifi fan, this is cool, if you are a Galactica fan this is awesome, if you are a RTX combat game freak this is a lot of fun. If you meat all 3 criterias , this is a must have. Go buy it, it is worth every dime.
