I tried the demo of this game first (which is still available!), and feel in love with it quickly. It’s great to find a game that allows for crafting, base building, and survival without also requiring constant shooting and/or fighting of enemies. The lore is fun, figuring out the most efficient ways to terraform is fun, and each update that’s been provided adds on in quite positive ways! If you’re unsure, always try the demo first. The fact they have a free demo was the entire reason I was willing to look at this in the first place. But it only took me a couple of hours to know I genuinely wanted this game, and I’m glad I made the purchase!
After 17 hours I can say this game is hitting all the right marks for me. Even in early access the game is a ton of fun and I can’t wait to see what is in the next update. Gameplay can be adjusted from a casual creative style to a hardcore permadeath playthrough if that’s more your thing. Progression is smooth and satisfying granting you new crafting augments and machinery as you level. It starts with the standard package of modern survival games: resource gathering, base building, map exploration, equipment upgrades, and scaling crafting recipes. An early version of Subnautica would be a fair comparison. The defining difference would be instead of crashing on an ocean world trying to escape, you are the sole worker tasked with terraforming a barren world into a thriving habitat. And it’s stunning to watch your efforts be slowly resound in the world around you. The first time I saw the brand new blue sky over the landscape, it just made me stop and think, “maybe what I’m working for is really worth it.”
