Indeed, R-Type Dimensions EX is a new remaster of sorts that brings back the classic duo in a new light once more, as this time they have introduced a new graphical update that gives new life to many of the Bydo monsters that the player will face off against in these two games alongside giving the overall world and setting a fresh paint of coat that makes it easier on the eyes for those who are not the biggest fans of the retro 16-bit graphics of old, which can actually be changed at any point during gameplay by simply hitting the Enter key to transition between old and new if you want to switch them on the fly.
The first, Classic Mode, is as it describes, bearing that true arcade experience in that you must make the most of the three lives you start off with and earn the right for any further lives through skillful gameplay and carefully evading the many projectiles and obstacles that both the Bydo monsters and the world itself will present to players as they get deeper and deeper into the more challenging territory, as is typical of any traditional arcade game back in the day.
