So I feel this is an unnecessary sequel because FF XIII ended perfectly with no lose ends. And they’ve changed up the gameplay enough to make it go from unbearably boring to tolerable. The stupid interrupting animations when you switch paradigms are gone and the problem of enemies having 420 bazillion HP is not as bad as in XIII. And since this is a much shorter game, you level up much faster, eliminating most of the grinding required. The biggest improvement though is the levels. They are now much more open instead of the single hallways of XIII and feel great to explore.
The story, as I’ve said, is pretty good. Though I would’ve liked it more if the cast of the previous game had more screentime. Especially Snow since the whole game of XIII was about him saving Serah and now he almost isn’t in this game. Also the ending was very very unexpected.
Oh and the PC port is just as terrible as the previous game. No quit button, barebones settings, horrendous volume mixing where you can’t hear the dialogue properly, and performance issues. But I guess that is to be expected of Square Enix at this point. Get all the necessary mods and it’ll make your experience slightly better.If you feel like playing more FF XIII, then this is more of it but improved. And if you feel like XIII is a complete story, you can skip this entirely as well with no issues.

Let me be clear: this port is absolutely abysmal. If you don’t want to go through the effort of fixing it (which is fairly easy, to be honest), then do not buy this game. I’ll start by going over how to fix this mess of a port. There are only a few things you’ll need to do, but they’ll turn this game from an unplayable mess to a great experience. First, download and install the Console Content Patch mod (following the ReadMe’s directions).
This part gets its own paragraph because it’ll be where you get the game to run above 30fps consistently. After doing the above steps, download the FFXIII-2FPSUnlock tool and run that before you start the game. I Then, click “make backup” and “unlock framerate 1″, followed by “apply”. After this point, your game should be running at a constant 45-60 fps, but if it’s not, there are some alternatives. You can either try using the same tool’s “unlock framerate 2”, and for failure of that, use the Final Fantasy XIII-2 Fixer.
